"My friend’s mom tried to take over my Airbnb reservation because 'I don’t need it as much as her'"

So I booked an Airbnb for a weekend getaway with a few friends. Chill cabin, nothing fancy, just something we could all chip in for and get out of the city.

My friend (we'll call her "Jess") asked if her mom could tag along because "she needs a break." I didn't love the idea, but whatever, it's a big enough place.

Anyway, day before the trip, I get a call from Jess's mom. Not Jess. Her mom. She says she and her boyfriend will be taking the cabin instead of me and my friends

because she's been "under a lot of stress" and "young people can travel anytime." She literally expected us to cancel our plans and hand the reservation over to her.

I told her that wasn't happening and she got super passive- aggressive. Kept throwing in "it" just disappointing how selfish young people are nowadays" an "I thought you'd be more respectful to someone older."

We went on the trip without her and now Jess is barely speaking to me because "I embarrassed her mom." Like... am I losing it? I paid for the thing.

Do some people just hit 50 and think the world owes them free vacations? Anyone else deal with entitled family members of friends?

Bonnm42 16h ago . Honestly it sounds like the garbage took itself out. Jess's Mom is entitled and Jess is an enabler. Best to stay far away from those two.

reservation. Do not ever give up your reservation in your name to another person, you don't want to be the one contractually obligated. And yes, they do seem to get more entitled.

utzy-Contest-1... 16h ago Wow just wow! Looks like Jess is starting to mirror her mom. That mother needs serious help with catching a clue.

DozyTwist 16h ago Jess should be embarrassed for her mom not mad at you

"There are hundreds of other Airbnbs or vacation spots. You could have booked one for her". "Jessica, your mom is a b*tch, and don't ever ask if she can come along again if you want us to continue being friends

To the mom: "Even though you've been an adult for years, it's disrespectful of you to hijack my vacation plans".
